How to Be a Good Recruit/Tryout/Intern/Newbie

Believe it or not, there is new content on The Slot! In How to Be a Good Newbie, I present 20 questions for anyone trying to get hired as a copy editor — or already hired and trying to make a good impression.

A lot of these are questions you'll have to ask, but some of them you had better be able to figure out yourself.

I am interested in being a good recruit. I wish this post included the 20 questions you alluded to. Sigh.

Yes, where are the 20 questions? How can one access them?

And while we are at it, why does The Post bookend its em dashes with spaces? Unspaced dashes look better, and they better convey the impression of surprise, of sudden change of thought, or of a pause toward the end of a sentence. Most high-end magazine and book publishers use the unspaced em dash.

And while we are at it, how about simplifying those codes to prove one is not a robot? They are virtually impossible for an educated, literate human to read.
